Hallmark and Dealers Notice
In the UK, jewellery items made from precious metals, which weigh over certain weights must legally be hallmarked. This provides a guarantee for purchasers that precious metals meet the quality stated.
A hallmark consists of the individual makers mark for the jeweller, together with the mark of the assay office which they which they are registered, and the type of metal being sold.
I am registered with the London Assaay Office (the Goldsmiths’ Company) and any fine silver jewellery weighing over 7.78g will be hallmarked.
